We work in a serious industry, and serious industries need somewhere to laugh. Carbon removal is also, on its own merits, funny. I have watched a room full of adults say “gigatonne” with a completely straight face, and pretending that isn’t funny has never made a single tonne easier to sell.
This is where the jokes go. Some are about durability. A disproportionate number are about MRV, which is the funniest thing in this industry and the only one nobody will admit is funny. If you work in this field you’ll get all of them. If you don’t, you’ll get about one in four, and honestly that’s the correct ratio for any in-joke worth having.

Who makes them
I’m Ross Kenyon. I’ve been in carbon removal since 2017, co-founded Nori, and host Reversing Climate Change. Making these is how I metabolise the parts of the job that would otherwise just sit there.
